An emergency board meeting are going to be held by the planet Health Organisation (WHO) tomorrow to debate the outbreak of a replacement coronavirus in China, which has killed six people and infected almost 300.
Concerns over the spread of the virus have grown after a Chinese Government-appointed expert confirmed it are often transmitted between humans.
China’s National Health Commission announced yesterday that there have been 291 confirmed cases of the pneumonia-like virus, including 77 new cases.
Since having originated in Wuhan, cases have been reported in other areas of China, further afield in Thailand, Japan, and South Korea.
WHO previously claimed it had not found sustained human-to-human transmission.
In a statement, WHO revealed that its International Health Regulations Emergency Committee will make recommendations and can determine whether the outbreak constitutes a public health emergency of international concern.
Wuhan has taken a series of measures following the outbreak, including cancelling Lunar New Year celebrations planned within the city.
It is believed the virus may be a member of an equivalent family because the deadly Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
The International Olympic Committee and the Asian Football Confederation are monitoring the outbreak along with its impact on the events that they are going to hold in Wuhan in February.
The Chinese city is about to stage the Tokyo 2020 Olympic boxing qualifier for Asia and Oceania from February 3 to 14.
